Gottfried Haider
FILTER: VIOLENCE AND ITS COUNTERSTRIKES
A technological work of art can appear playful or even chaotic, while the design behind it is sophisticated and professional. Or vice versa: a work looks simple, but the elements that make it work come from a rich, complex context. In his ‘hand-drawn circuits’, painted with conductive copper paint, Gottfried Haider tries to show the interaction between the artist and his/her material in a direct way. Observing his work yields the same kind of information as taking a good look at a painting. By putting the copper, normally used to make printed circuit boards in electronic devices, ‘outside’, the artist shows the sensitivity of working with such an electrical component. A component that once on the surface retains its conductive function in a playful way.

Gottfried Haider (Austria, 1985)
Gottfried Haider is fascinated by the hidden aspects of media art. What is the relationship between the traces of human activity in such artwork – like a custom-made circuit board – and what is revealed on the surface?
