Pedro Reyes
FILTER: VIOLENCE AND ITS COUNTERSTRIKES
Mexico suffers enormously from drug-related violence. An average of ten people are murdered daily, often with weapons smuggled into the country from the United States. In his project Disarm, Pedro Reyes turns confiscated weapons, rifles, pistols and machine guns into musical instruments. These instruments make music with the help of computer programs. Reyes transforms death into creativity, violent energy into benevolent energy. The music drives away the evil of weapons and is also a requiem for destroyed lives.
