Many companies make use of technology to monitor the speed and efficiency of their personnel. This monitoring sometimes goes so far that those who are lagging behind receive warning text messages. If those who work according to a ‘zero-hours contract’ are not needed, they are told they have a so-called ‘day off’. A humiliating way to inform someone that they are unnecessary and won’t earn any income that day – and in English that isn’t even grammatically correct!
