FILTER: DESTRUCTIVE FORCES AT WORK

The Shadow World is a film about corruption and arms trafficking, based on the book by Andrew Feinstein, which explores cover-ups of shadowy arms deals between the British and Saudi governments, a.o. With this documentary film Grimonprez shows us how arms trafficking works, how it affects foreign policy, undermines democracy and facilitates corruption. That as an invisible fact it permeates all layers of society, even our psyche, says the artist. The Shadow World makes the invisible visible and makes plain something we would rather not talk about.

As a documentary maker Grimonprez always tries to approach reality in a new way. For him the camera is a prism that continually offers a different view of reality. He is constantly in search of a language for things for which there is no language yet, and presents himself as an interpreter of our runaway visual culture. Do we get any wiser by seeing more advertisements, more images of dictators and parades from old film footage? How many images can a human being remember? How many images can a human being bear?
