Neïl Beloufa
Beloufa has devoted several video projects to a possible future – new worlds that, despite their strangeness, are nevertheless conceivable because they are rooted in what now exists. There is a mix of fiction and new realities that touch on what we know today, innovative technologies, and trends or stories that intrigue the artist.
Video World Domination includes many post-imperialist references. For instance, Beloufa asked non-French to act and speak French as if they were president of their ‘foreign land’. The clearly exaggerated accent is reminiscent of how actors in Western blockbuster movies portray people from non-Western countries. During this ‘imperialist’ game, the presidential player was forbidden to look serious, thereby undermining his own strategy.
